Comparison

Pinly vs TurfKeeper - the honest comparison

TurfKeeper is the trusted UK and Ireland incumbent - a decade in market with deep references at championship venues. Pinly is the modern, AI-native rebuild for greenkeepers who want disease modelling, growth-potential nutrition, polygon-based course mapping and a chatbot inside the same product. This page tells you where each one wins so you choose the right tool for your course.

Where Pinly is genuinely different

These aren't marketing claims - they're the rows in the table above where TurfKeeper has nothing comparable in its public marketing.

AI scheduling that's weather- and disease-risk-aware

Every morning at 4:30 AM, Pinly reviews tomorrow's weather, turf-growth forecast, disease risk, staff availability and your standing instructions - then generates a full daily schedule with a plain-English reason next to every task. You review and adjust rather than building from scratch. TurfKeeper's planner is calendar-based with recurring tasks; the AI layer isn't part of the product as of May 2026. We're not the only AI scheduling claim in the category - GreenSight TurfCloud has a similar pitch - but Pinly's planner is conditioned on integrated agronomic models, not just past scheduling habits.

Peer-reviewed disease models inside the ops platform

Pinly's disease engine implements nine turf-pathology models. The four foundation models are Smith-Kerns 2018 logistic regression for Dollar Spot (Damon Smith and Jim Kerns, PLOS ONE 13:3 e0194216), Fidanza et al. 1996 hourly RH-and-minimum-temperature criteria for Brown Patch (Phytopathology 86:385), Nutter 1983 three-criteria rule for Pythium (Plant Disease 67:1126) - all three implemented as written - plus a leaf-wetness-primary Microdochium model based on the Dwyer 2017 polynomial (Int. Turfgrass Soc. Res. J. 13:139) with STRI-style gating, since no peer-reviewed regression of Smith-Kerns rigour exists for Microdochium. On top of those, Pinly adds Anthracnose (daily ASI), Red Thread (with N-status modifier), Drechslera (max of cool- and warm-season scores), and two soil-temperature-driven root diseases - Take-All and Pythium Root Rot. The models themselves aren't unique to Pinly - Smith-Kerns is in Syngenta Turf Advisor for free. What's unique is closing the loop: the same risk forecast that flags a high-Microdochium morning also schedules the spray, deducts the fungicide from inventory, and writes the application record. That's what no other UK product does today.

Polygon-based course mapping as a first-class object

Every green, tee, fairway, bunker and rough is drawn as a real polygon on a map (PostGIS-backed). Polygons can be drawn directly, imported from existing mapping-tool exports, or pulled from public GIS. Once they exist, anything with a lat/long - a pin a crew member dropped, a future spray heat-map, an area-level weather pull - auto-resolves to the right hole and area. TurfKeeper has a course-area concept, but no public evidence of polygon GIS as the workflow primitive. For greenkeepers who think spatially, the difference shows up the first time you drop an issue pin and Pinly already knows it's Green 7.

Where TurfKeeper still wins

A comparison page that only flatters its own product isn't worth reading. Here are three places TurfKeeper has a real, current advantage Pinly can't match yet.

A decade of references at flagship venues

Royal Aberdeen, Royal Cinque Ports, Close House, Portmarnock, Adelaide Oval, Real Madrid, Sanctuary Cove. If your buying committee requires deep, named references at championship links today, TurfKeeper has them and we don't. Pinly is new - we're winning early customers on product, not reference list.

OAS distribution and BASIS/FACTS-qualified field reps

Origin Amenity Solutions has 100+ amenity advisers across the UK who already visit clubs to sell fertiliser and seed. They sell TurfKeeper alongside, BASIS-qualified, with an existing relationship with the head greenkeeper. That's a multi-year head-start in trust we won't replicate quickly.

Mature greens-by-area labour reports

TurfKeeper's reporting - particularly labour-by-area on the greens - is repeatedly cited in case studies as the biggest single benefit of the product, refined over a decade of head-greenkeeper feedback. We've built our reporting against this benchmark, but TurfKeeper has the head-start and the maturity.

Who each is for

Choose TurfKeeper if
  • You want a proven incumbent with a 10+ year reference list
  • You already buy fertiliser and seed from OAS and value the bundled relationship
  • Your ops director values track record over AI features
  • You don't need disease modelling or polygon mapping inside the ops product today
Choose Pinly if
  • You want AI scheduling that learns your standing instructions
  • You want peer-reviewed disease models and GP nutrition inside the same product
  • You think spatially - polygons, not lists, are how your team works
  • You're comfortable being an early customer of a modern platform in exchange for a head-start on AI-native operations
